The series of events taking place surrounding the geopolitical Asian platform is another sad example of how politicians in the region quickly forget to represent what's best for it's own people. No one, and I mean no one, benefits from striking up conflicts in this day and age between countries where interdependence is more prominent than ever.

As a Japanese citizen living abroad, nothing is more disturbing than your own PM, stirring the pot back home, while you go about doing business with Asians from neighboring countries. Fortunately, time has given us wisdom and more often than not we can go about our daily lives devoid of unpleasant clashes regardless of how our leaders behave back home.

There are significant number of people of Korean, Chinese and other Asian descent in Japan, as well as constant influx of visitors every year. Intermarriage rate is also climbing. Many Japanese are excepting the fact that the country will not survive without respecting harmony and peace with whomever approaches Japan with good intentions. These are ordinary people, like you and I, with ordinary minds, with average aspirations, and it is saddening to see such conflicts developing through a series of unintentional/intentional misinterpretation of their counterpart. The silent (not so) minority of Asians of these countries just shrug their shoulders to the mess in front of them and go about their already busy mundane lives. Not to say that is the right behavior.

If, and only if, the countries should go to war, for whatever preposterous reasons, there would be a lot to loose on every party. Japan: so much in debt, their population declining by the minute; China: with its one child policy, and increasing disparity, and the US: another bout of risking their troops in an international dispute, I can only see oil companies and military merchants prospering with everybody else losing.

When I read comments pointing fingers at each other, I sense a peculiar detachment. Comments from people whose main source of information is news media.

I decided to word my concerns as an average Joe, who just happens to have friends all over Asia. In the last war, my Japanese-American relatives spent time in concentration camps.

If this childish rant should continue we will have to drag Mr. Abe from his seat (though we had expectations for him to revive the economy) and also expect wiser politicians in the neighboring countries.

There are many Chinese and Korean citizens yearning to leave their homeland for a better life abroad. Worrisome trend, if I were to truly wish prosperity for my own people.

May we be wise and courageous to do good for our neighbors and ourselves.
